PERU—CHURCH-BASED THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION
Country: Paraguay and Peru
General Information
In 2006, SAM missionaries in Peru planted Iglesia Mil Palmeras, also known as Thousand Palms Church. Today, Mil Palmeras is transforming its community by embodying the Kingdom of God. With over 400 congregants, they are now exploring planting a new church in another town in the Amazon jungle.
The charge to be used as vessels to transform lives is growing out of a lay movement within Mil Palmeras. An important tool for equipping these lay leaders is a church-based theological education program called BILD (known as ETBIL in Latin America, “Educación Teológica Basada en La Iglesia Local”). Recently, the congregation of Mil Palmeras began training using ETBIL resources as a regular part of weekly worship services. There are also 12 pastors local to the area of Mil Palmeras who, alongside Mil Palmeras leadership, have committed to the ETBIL Leadership Series.
This educational model is accessible, affordable and effective for many in the Latin American church. You can send more leaders at Mil Palmeras through deeper levels of ETBIL training for only $10 per person. Local pastors can pursue each level of the Leadership Series for only $65 per level.
