River for Christ- River ministry to the mestizo community

Director: Matthias Drochner

Purpose:

River for Christ's vision is (a) that every mestizo believer living in the Ucayali river valley has access to a church , and (b) that there are sufficient testifying believers so that every non-believer is presented with the gospel at least once every three years.

Target:

River for Christ works with metizos who live along the Ucayali river and its tributaries.

Normally the students come from a low academic level (4th grade) with marginal reading comprehension.  Church leaders are generally untrained lay pastors who lack Bible knowledge and vital ministry skills.  Nevertheless, these same leaders try to feed their flock the crumbs they are able to gather after a day of work in their field.  Spiritual maturity is the exception.

Mode of Ministry:

River for Christ works in coordination with the church association United Evangelical Churches (IEU).

  • Training Leaders - Students attend short training classes three times a year at a rented location in Pucallpa.  Students are trained in pastoring, evangelism, church planting and the fundamentals of training others in evangelism.
  • Assisting Leaders - Leaders are assisted through motivation, outreach projects, consulting and limited financial support
  • Traveling Bible Course - TBC is used to spread the basics of Christian life to churches without trained leaders.

Some distinctive characteristics of the Bible Institute:

  • Highly practical - Role playing, simulated door-to-door evangelism, practice teaching, simulated baptisms and funerals ...etc.
  • Character changing - Applying biblical and theological principles through discipleship inside and outside the classroom.
  • Basic - The focus for the institute is on the absolute basics of what is required for ministry.
